of Outreach Summer Research Programs for High
School Students and Teachers The
University of New Orleans (UNO) has sponsored an Outreach Summer Research
Program for High School Students and Teacher since 2002. The
program began as part of a National Science Foundation EPSCoR project
cosponsored by the Louisiana Board of Regents and continues through
funding from the Board of Regents, the National Science Foundation,
AMRI, the University of New Orleans, and the Academy of Applied
Science/Army Research Office. High school students and teachers participate in research projects within the areas
of synthesis, characterization and application of nanoparticles and
their composites and assemblies. Participants also attend scientific
and professional development seminars, a session on research ethics, and
participate in field trips to local industrial and related sites and in
